Games Design a Gradius! - Fun game

Right heres a little game to play. Lets say your in charge of making a gradius game. It is to have 9 stages and the 8th stage is to be a boss rush of 5 bosses. You can choose any type of stage you want, imaginary or from the game. But the bosses have to come from older games.

Heres what I would like:

Stage 1 - Crystal = Crystal Gust
Stage 2 - Fire = Phoenix
Stage 3 - Cell = Huge Heart
Stage 4 - Ice = Big Core MK-IV
Stage 5 - Darkness = Lizard Core
Stage 6 - Inverse Volcano = Beserk Core
Stage 7 - Outer Base = Bolboros
Stage 8 - Boss Rush = Terra Core, Tetran, Covered Core, Shining Core, Bloody Gate
Stage 9 - Inner Base = Keeper's Core, Elephant Gear, Bacterian

This would be a pretty fun and balanced game I feel.

Stage 1: Mechanical Base + Fire.
The stage starts with the base burning and about to explode, preasssumbly after Vic Viper destroyed it a few seconds prior to the game. You have to escape through fire, explosions and magma. There are a few easy enemies as the stronger ones show up but are destroyed before you get a chance to actually face them. While the presentation is intense, the stage is designed so you can't die easilly. Sorta like at the start of Nemesis 2 GB.
Midway it slows down and you fly through the burning surrounding. The idea is that the base functioned with magma or someting.
Boss: Salamander NES fire dragon.

Stage 2: Water + Moai
Something like garudius 95' first stage, except obviously harder, and the moai aren't on small stones but do things like emerge from the water or in the walls of caves. One must be hidding behind a waterfall in the background. No idea about the boss. There's no free scrolling. Touching the water is ok, but getting submerged is fatal.

I don't have the rest very clear, but they would be similar in the manner that they mix two themes.
The final stage would be another mechanical base.

Not really a full game, but I often thought about a stage based on the video game Qix. There would be enemies drawing walls on the top and bottom of the stage. If you kill them, they fail to create the wall, but if they succeed new walls will be made, making the stage more of a pain in the ****. Also, if you happen to be on the wrong side of it.... well, that means death!

If I were to make a Gradius game, it would be more along the lines of a remake/retelling of Gradius: The Interstellar Assault (or Nemesis 2: Return of the Hero). Also some elements of Gradius Neo and perhaps GR3 (or just the Nemesis series in general) put in for good measure.

Stage 1: Ambush! - Riot Warship
Stage 2a: Chase - Super Big Core (can't destroy)
Stage 2b: Ruins - Infected Statue, Blind Guardian
Stage 3: Inside Super Big Core - Core Reactor
Stage 4: Asteroid Field - (Zub Rush), Death Mk. 3
Stage 5: Space - Gemini Big Core, Abandon Warship
Stage 6: Orbital Base - Enigma
Stage 7: System Warp - Neo Big Core
Stage 8: Boss Rush - (Zub Rush), Ancient Core, Misfit Warship, Genocide Core, Rolling Core, Crater Core
Stage 9a: Final Base - Guardian Core
Stage 9b: Escape! - Escape Ship (Chase then Attack)

Man... that was more difficult than I expected. I would have placed the Boss Rush earlier, moved some other things around but wanted to keep in the spirit of the challenge and the base game. =)

Its very interesting. That game looks like it would be fun.

I took alot of inspiration from Gradius Galaxies myself.

At game start, you can select either Vic Viper or Lord British. Each one has different weapons to choose from in Weapon Edit mode.

Stage 1: Ambush - Blitz Core. Military base is under attack, destroy the invaders! (Planetary cityscape style stage)
Stage 2: Counterattack - Carrier Core. The source of the attackers has been located. (Asteroid field)
Stage 3: Boss Rush - Tetran, Big Core Mk.II, Big Core Mk.III, Big Core Mk.IV, Big Core Mk.V (Surface of a space station)
Stage 4: Final Attack - Hugin and Munin. Enemy leader located. Destroy the Core! (Space Station exterior)

After defeating the boss, the player character is brainwashed. All stages after this scroll from left to right, with the player ship facing left.

Stage 5: Betrayal - Gunship Britannia. Prove your new loyalty by destroying your former battlegroup. (Asteroid Field)
Stage 6a: Advance Arrow - Gunship Tripoli. Lead the new Bacterian attack. (If Britannia destroyed, Moon surface)
Stage 6b: Advance Spear - Battleship Yamato. Lead the new Bacterian attack. (If Britannia survived/timed out, Gradian space station interior/exterior)
Stage 7: Boss Rush - Gunship Gigant, Gunship Raptor, Battleship Musashi, Battleship Quartet. (Atmosphere, decreasing altitude)
Stage 8: Invasion - Vic Viper/Lord British. Lead the Bacterian attack. Boss changes depending on which ship you chose. (Cityscape, missile base)

Stage 9 returns to normal scrolling/play style. The player character has broken free of Gofer's mind control.

Stage 9: Redemption - Hugin MK.II and Munin MK.II, then Odin Core. Ensure they can't do this again. (High-Speed Gauntlet stage, plus high-speed bossfight)

Stage 7: Bacterian Fleet, miniboss: Daedalus, boss: Queensryche (both forms)
Stage 8: Boss Rush, bosses: Perla Meralda, Planet Core, Beacon, Parasite Core (armed with two Neo Big Cores), Bolboros (fused)
Stage 9: Bacterian Fortress, bosses: Disrupt, Ground Spider (horizontal version), Mother Computer Z and Escape Ship

@GrandViper: The original game was already great, but thsi will make it even better!

@Pesky: Just a copy-paste of what you've posted in "If you designed Gradius". I don't mean it's bad, but it looks like you broke the rules.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of bosses included in your post is completely new.
