Famicom Gradius II [Famicom] in Electronic Gaming Monthly & GamePro 1989

Hi guys, first post here. Please forgive the large number of images!

This is how I first learned of the existence of Gradius II for the Japanese version of the NES, the Famicom. In the pages of Electronic Gaming Monthly, and also GamePro.

Hope you enjoy these!

Very interesting!
Sad how the magazines talked about this version of the game but the port was kept in Japan! Stupid NOA/NOE...

Indeed, really sad NOA/NOE wouldn't release it in the west. I mean, how expensive could that Konami chip have been, anyway?

For context, this was the full International Outlook section from EGM #2.

It seems the editors at EGM felt Gradius II was second only to SMB3 in importance.

And of course, the very next issue had that 2-page spread I posted in the OP.

Note the last level music, "Something Ghostly," reappears, in Stage 4, of Gradius Rebirth. The ending music, "Farewell," is identical to that of the arcade original. Stage 3's music, also appears in Gradius Rebirth's, first stage music.
