PlayStation 3 Gradius VI game idea

You can say I had too much free time that I made this, but I really couldn't resist coming up with an idea of a new Gradius game, so I decided to share with everyone.

I'll start with the levels and bosses first, and then I'll do the weapons later. Of course, this topic isn't only about mines; you can post your own ideas if you have, so enjoy!

Stage 1: Planet Gradius
You begin with flying into the atmosphere of the planet fighting the familiar row of enemies to gain powerups. The stage begins when land is in sight; the whole stage is a reminiscense of the classic volcano stage, except without upside-down ones. Volcanoes will also erupt, so watch out.
Boss: Reckless mk-II
This is second incarnation of the original Reckless, who appeared as the stage 3 boss of GB Nemesis. The basic design is the same--a 'base' with a tall tower that moves up and down from the base, and not to mention a large core on the tower. However, this version had the base on wheels and it keeps on moving backwards, so the whole fight is basically chasing it down.
Attacks
1. The gun turrets on the sides of the tower will fire at you. The turrets can be destroyed, but will regenerate shortly.
2. Homing missiles will shoot out from the base of the tower. The missiles can be destroyed
3. The gun turrets will sometimes fire a laser beam that moves with the tower's movements.
4. Stiker mk-II will sometimes charge forward. You'll have to stay on the far left screen to avoid getting it.
The ones listed above are all its attacks. The weak spot is obvoiusly the large core, only when it appears.

Stage 2: Gradius Sea

You begin flying over the surface of the sea, eventually dipping into the sea to begin the real stage. The whole stage takes place under the sea fighting Bacterian submarines and water mines, not to mention water life forms like fish, sea anemones, and sea serpents who wants you dead.
Boss: Leviathan
The boss is a large robotic fish built with Bacterian technology. It appears from the left side of the screen while snapping its jaws and will soon stop on the right side and turn around to attack you.
Attacks
1. Fire a volley of missiles from its mouth.
2. Charge forward to bite you.
3. Swim into the background and fire missiles to the foreground from there.
4. Dispatch small robotic fish, which will fire bullets at you.
Leviathan's fighting still bears a reminiscense to Death in the way it moves up and down while firing missiles, plus the other mentioned attacks. Once in a while, he will turn and swim away to the background to do attack no. 2. You'll have to avoid the missiles until he comes back, but make sure you don't get hit by him when he does. The weak spot is the mouth whenever it opens. When the mouth is busted, the machineries inside will be revealed, but the boss isn't quite dead yet. It will attack more furiously than before but will no longer move to the background. Aim for the front part until it finally dies.

Stage 3: Gradius Army Ruins
You are called back to return to space to support the Gradius army in fighting their enemies, but by the time you got there, the whole army is ruined and this stage takes a flight through the remains of the fleet, among wrecked battleships and space junks. You will have to avoid large pieces of metals as they drift around space and make sure not to get pressed between several of them, as they can even fill up the whole screen. Enemies may very well hide among the wreckage and ambush you. Towards the end of the stage, you will encounter several enemies who appear from thin air and attack you, and you know that this signalizes the boss rush.
Boss 1: Death mk-IV
Death is back with a larger and 'fatter' design. This time though, he won't just stay on the right side, but rather, move around all over the place.
Attacks
1. Fire a volley of missiles.
2. Attack with his trademark laser beam, and he can aim it anywhere.
3. Dispatch smaller enemies at you.
The weak spot is still the front part. He will only began the laser move after the front part is blown off.
Boss 2: Blade Tetran
The Tetran is back with scythes attached to the ends of his tentacles.
Attacks
1. Swing the blade tentacles around in circular formation, trying to cut you down.
2. Lengthen the tentacles so that they take up the whole screen length, and then move it in circles. You'll have to move along with it.
He doesn't have any projectile attacks, but only those mentioned up there, so he isn't all that hard. The weak spot is the core, which can he shot from the left side of his body.
Boss 3: Nobil
The returning boss from Gradius Gaiden is back after a long absence and it makes use of the stuffs lying around to attack you.
Attacks
1. Grab hold of the junks drifting by and hurls it at you.
2. Some as above, but uses the junk as a bludgeon to whack you instead.
3. Fire lasers in every direction all at once.
The junks it gets hold of can be destroyed, so do so before he uses it on you. The weak spot is the core.
Boss 4: Big Core mk-V
The fifth incarnation of Big Core has a design crossed between III and IV. It's middle body has 3 cores arranged in the same formation as III, and it was 'arms' on its lower and upper sides, similar to IV. The remaining two cores are placed in each arms.
Attacks
1. Fires two beams from the arms and traps you in between them and the lasers move with the boss.
2. While you're trapped in there, he'll fire straight moving lasers at you.
3. The arms is detach from the main body and position in some part of the screen and fire a laser, usually trapping you in between two and then sweep the screen with it. The main body will continue to fire lasers at you while this is going on.
As you can see, his fighting style is similar to mk-III, minus the crisscross laser. Aim for all 5 cores to win.

Stage 4: Moai
The traditional Moai stage has you fighting the usual Moais, along with eye laser ones and also spinning Moai poles. New Moais are ones that float around in space and firing at you, but can be killed in the same way.
Boss: Moai Terminator
The boss is a large Moai who isn't stationary, but rather flying around via engine on its back. He travels around the screen but usually stays on the right side of the screen doing attacks.
Attacks
1. Spits out energy rings taht can be destroyed.
2. Spits out a large ring that explodes into smaller ones.
3. Aim and fire a large eye beam at you.
4. Rocket across the screen while spitting rings everywhere.
The weak spot is the mouth, but only it opens. After enough hits, the rocky covering will break apart, revealing a mechanical face inside. He still acts mostly the same, except more furious, and not to mention it will start using the eye beam. Continue aiming for the mouth.

Stage 5: Lightning
This stage takes place in a space cloud filled with electricity. The whole stage bares a reminiscense to the fire stage in Salamander, except it's electricity. Lightning bolts will drop down and arcs of lightning will appear, not to mention encounter will flying electric balls and electric birds. Electricity charged serpentine dragon s will also attack you.
Boss: Thunder Dragon
The boss is large medieval style dragon with a horn on its head, acting as a lightning rod to absorb electricity. It flies around in a path similar to Wyvern from Arcade GIII.
Attacks
1. Fire several lightning balls at you, similar to the way Big Core Rev 1.2 (from GV) does.
2. A bolt of lightning strikes the horn on its head and it'll arm and blast a bolt of powerful lightning at you.
3. Reach his head forward to bite you.
The weak spot is the horn on the head, and because it's quite a small target, it can be pretty tough aiming for it, and the dragon moves around often too. When the horn is destroyed, a lightning bolt strike down on the dragon's head and shocks it, and the dragon explodes and dies.

Default Re: Gradius VI game idea

Stage 6: Cell
I'm not a big fan of organic stages, as I find them to be disgusting and disturbing at times (Salamander 2 stage 3 comes to mind). However, being a tradition of Gradius, it feels weird to left them out. This organic stage actually takes place in a gigantic cell, and is a homage to the cell stage in Gradius 1. You'll have to blast an opening from outside the cell to enter the actual stage. The background is transcluent, allowing you to see the space scene outside, but you will be fighting enemies like amoebas, those brain mass with tentacles, and worm-like enemies while flying around to avoid running into organic masses. You'll also have to shoot through strands of DNA that act as regenerating walls.
Boss: Killer Nucleus
The boss is an organic mass situated on the right side of the screen, the end of the cell. It has a mouth filled with jag teeth and it is your target.
Attacks
1. Send out amoeba enemies to kill you. They can be easily killed.
2. Tries to suck you into its mouth and bite you.
3. Spits out green stuffs that follow you around. They are indestructible, but disappears after a while.
4. Fires a burst of laser forward.
The mouth can only be shoot when it opens, and it only does so when performing an attack. When defeated, the mass blows up along with the whole cell, and you've basically destroyed the entire level.

Stage 7: Crystal Cave
This place takes inside a cave made of crystal and ice. It bares a similarity to to the one in Gaiden due to the crystal being able to bend your lasers, thus making it an awesome sight to see. Baring a similarity to the bones in organic stages, some crystals will jut in and out from lands to hit you.
Boss: Crystal Dancer
The boss is from the Shadow Dancer family; a large 4-legged spider mech that walks through the passageway and you must get past its legs when he lifts it up. There are cores on the legs which you must destroy. It doesn't do anything besides walking, but enemies will be on the screen and attack you. After taking out the cores on all 4 legs, the legs will all blow up and the body will be left floating in midair, and the second part starts.
Attacks
1. The body will gather together crystals and they orbit around him, serving as a temporary shield before hurling them at you..
2. Fire bursts of energy shots at you.
Simply shoot the body until it dies.

Stage 8: Temple
This stage is similar to the Ancient Planet stage in MSX Gradius 2, but also similar to the pyramid stage in NES Salamander. There are pillars that can be destroyed to make platforms fall down and also traps like falling boulders, moving pillars, closing walls, etc.
Boss: Statue Core
The boss is a large statue taking the form of a deity, and it is moving tank threads moving away from you, so you're basically chasing it.
Attacks
1. Fire eye lasers and the laser turns once to come after you.
2. Fire a volley of bullets from its arm cannon.
3. Release bombs onto the ground that explode in a moving column of fire that grows and shrinks.
4. Release enemies from a hatch on its body.
Aim for the face while you avoid the attacks, and when you destroyed the covering, you will reveal the core behind it. The battle is the same, except there's no more eye lasers and the boss fights more furiously. Also, debris will fall down from the ceiling, so watch out.

Stage 9: Space
This stage takes place flying through space filled with Bacterian enemies and warships. You will be fighting swarms of enemies at once and medium sized battleships, not to mention asteroids flying around. It's similar to the fifth stage of Salamander. At the end, the Bacterian mothership is visible in the background in the form of a massive city, then the boss rush begins here.
Boss 1: Snake Core
The boss consists of 8 round segments connected to the end of each other like that of a snake, and each segment has a core. The boss does nothing more than snaking around the screen to ram you, so just avoid it. All the cores must be destroyed in order to kill the boss, and simply shooting the segment will damage the core.
Boss 2: Sharp Core
This simple-looking core ship will open its sides and attack with various sharp things.
Attacks
1. Swords appear out from the sides and is shot like you like a missile, raining down from the top and bottom.
2. Two large arms with scythes appear from the sides and the boss extends it forward and tries to cut you with it by swinging around.
3. Shoots out two buzz saws that fly around the screen for a while before returning to the boss.
4. The boss forms a drill in front of it and charges back and forth across the screen once to try and hit you.
You should know the weak spot for these bosses.
Boss 3: Abadon Warship
It's a returning boss from MSX Gradius 2, the one encountered in Fortress Planet.
Attacks
1. Fires a burst of energy shots in several directions.
2. Fires a large laser beam that follows its movements.
3. Fires a homing laser that turns once to come after you.
It has two other two mentioned new attacks besides its usual laser one. Destroy the core.
Boss 4: Ferris Core
This boss is similar to Big Core Rev 1.2 in the way it totally encircles you within, but it has 5 cores to destroy.
Attacks
1. Fire energy rings at you and they can be shot.
2. Lobs a metal ball that bounces within the circle for a while before exploding into bullets.
3. Fires a laser from one side to another, similar to Rev 1.2. May fire more than one laser too.
The boss is also moving around, so you can't stay in one place but move along with it to avoid hitting the sides. As with all other core bosses, destroy the core.

Final Stage: Fortress
The traditional fortress stage like all other final stages. For the first part of the stage, it will be a high speed like no other. Fly through a large maze while avoiding enemies and obstacles like closing gates, spinning doors, and ball walls. You will eventually encounter the first boss when you fly into a straightforward passage.
Boss 1: Gate Core
It's another version of the gunner wall family, and this one has only one core, but is a really hard boss.
Attacks
1. The primary attack is sending out panels that arrange themselves to form mazes which you have to avoid and fly around. Your shot can't go through these panels too.
2. Fires a blast of laser that can pierce through the maze panels.
3. Fires an energy ball that bounces within the maze.
The real challenge, as said, is trying to get past the maze that it creates by releasing the panels. You'll have to get through the maze and shoot the core. Since the laser it fires can destroy the panels, it sort of helps you create a passage to escape the maze.
After the boss is dealt with, you continue into the stage filled with moving walls and floors and several enemies attacking you. It's like the previous mechanical base stages. There will also be times where the screen vertically up and down or even diagonally.
Boss 2: Guard Spider
You can say this is another version of the Shadow Dancer, though it acts differently. This robotic spider is crawling along the background, but its massive body is in the foreground and vulnerable to attacks. The battle takes place while the screen is scrolling backwards and the spider is coming after you from the front, so you're basically moving backwards and shooting front since you can't turn around.
Attacks
1. Fires eye laser at you.
2. Fires a bomb that creates a temporary explosion.
The spider has only two attacks, but enemies will also be running around the place and help attack you. The spider not only stays in this position, but it will sometimes crawl to the foreground and walk along the ceiling or floor, but the attacks remain the same. The weak spot is the head.
After dealing with him, the screen will begin scrolling up while you fight simple enemies. Gates will be closing, so you'll have to go through them fast. Finally, you'll emerge at the top where you meet the final boss.
Final Boss: Bacterion
Bacterion takes the form a large mechanical head with a visible brain. With a new twist, he provides a bit of challenge this time.
Attacks
1. Fire energy balls that is aimed at you.
2. Fire a spread of energy balls that move at moderate speed.
3. Fire a couple of homing energy balls that follow you around for a while before disappearing.
These are all the attacks he has, and he's actually not too hard. Aim for the mouth whenever it opens to attack. After destroying the mechanical head, all that is left will be the brain supported in air via cables and veins. It doesn't fight back anymore, so just go ahead and blow it up.

Sounds good to me! I always thought it'd be cool to have a stage actually take place on planet Gradius.

One big thing I want to see in VI is an improved version of the Directional Options with Robotron-style controls.

I think the game should be played around the other way where you are on a deep space expedition and you meet Bacterion then you have to fight your way back to Planet Gradius to save the world, with the last few battles on the planet.

In my dreams, Gradius Vi should be a multiscrolling game, including 3D stages with super graphics, fantastic intros and (finally) a super ending movie. More: secret stages, new weapons and so on...

Just list and describe the stages and bosses you think will be in Gradius VI, well, it's like making your own gradius game.

Here is mines:

1. Damaged Ozone - While heading to the Bacterian Ship, Vic Viper and the other three came across a planet with a poisonous atmosphere, asteroids are surrounding it, so they have no choice but to go through the dangerous atmosphere.

The level consists of purple gases around the area which can not be touched, later on, large ships will be throwing gas balls at you.

Boss: Tenta Core - fires streams of poison gas and a blazing stream of torpedos and bullets, sometimes turns around and tries to crush the ship. Its two tentacles will fire bullets at you.

2. Monstrous Forest

The level consists of thick vines you have to shoot through, flowers that fire smaller flowers which fire smaller flowers which fire three flaming seeds. Later on, greener vines will be seen, which, regenerates and grows back, moss covered rocks will fall down and Core snakes will fire lasers at you.

Boss: Tri Jungle and Bio-Goliath - A boss that has four different forms, the first form is a simple seed that fires the giant flowers described above, will then grow into a sucking plant similar to the Gradius III plant stage boss. It will then die serving as fertilizer that makes another seed grow fast into a floating flower, it spins it's petals to avoid the core in the middle getting destroyed, the petals shoot out smaller petals that explodes into five green seeds when shot. The flower then shrinks. The final boss appears, a rock statue covered with thick vines and moss, it fires lasers out of it's mouth, will punch you and throw vines and seeds at you, watch out, because occasionally, an option hunter will shoot out of it's head. You have to shoot and destory the yellow orb in the wall at his back, the source of its power.

3. Celestial Snow

The level consists of snowy caverns with sharp icicles hanging at the top, ready to fall down at you, mixed with some machines that produces snow, kind of like a flame thrower, but instead, it is snow and fires it at two sides, doing a swirly action. There is a sub-boss at the end consisting of ice whirls coming from the right side and will aim at you, a lot easier than the cube rush in Gradius III Arcade.

Boss: Snow-Cocoon - Its name sounds easy, but it's actually hard, especially with it having 23 ice holes firing ice whirls bouncing around, that's actually it's only attack, it has an eye which is your target.

4. Burning Ruins

4a.I just thought of this, and it has two parts, the first part is your basic Moai stage, with Moais that regenerate, red moais, blue moais, and more. But later through the stage, you will go inside some cavern filled with moais, then lava comes in and burns all the moai statues. Then the first boss appears.

Boss 1: Fire Beecon - a great twist to the Beecon, Fire Beecon will fire fireballs instead of normal, blue balls, these balls will split to three small balls, although his lasers are minimized down to just two, and was replaced by flamethrowers, making it even harder. It has five cores, like before.

4b. Now the next part comes in, the stage will now be filled with lava, and spinning moais will charge at you, and later on, as a sub-boss, Fire Moais, which still fires those weird rings, will charge at you, they soon drop and burn to the lava.

Boss 2: Burning Vaif - acting as one of the hardest Moai bosses, this boss fires burning rocks that when destroyed, introduces three small fire moais, in addition to this, it can use a flamethrower through it's eye, and the fire surrounding it can spread out to furture a ferris wheel of some kind, and you have to keep moving to avoid them. When you finall destroy it's eye, it's time to destory it's mouth, it will lift from the lava to reveal its mouth, it fires rings surrounded by fire which forms a cross pattern, making them even harder to dodge, plus they are indestructible.

I'll add more later!!!

Cool, very cool! If I were Konami, then I'll realise this idea as soon as you've posted it.

Still nice. Bacterion should be harder, though.

Default Re: Gradius VI game idea

I think the last level should be a huge biological level, where you can choose different routes. I will love a level editor. That will be cool! Can you send these ideas, to Konami, Taito, G-Rev., Treasure Inc. Co. Ltd., Kojima Productions, Mobile 21, and M2? I think they will like them! Thanks!
